YOU DON'T NEED TO PICK UP YOUR DOG'S POO!

05/03/2019 - Dog Walking

You don’t need to pick up your dog poo in the countryside....seems to be a common misconception.

On paths and in play areas most responsible dog owners do indeed pick up their dog poo, but it appears that as soon as you enter a footpath or farmers field this rule no longer applies.
After parking and heading off on one of our favourite walk routes this morning, I must’ve passed at least 30 piles of dog poo in the first 100metres……. This is just pure laziness and it’s pretty disgusting too!

Even though you are on country paths, it still is common courtesy to pick up your dog’s poo. Not only is it unsightly, adults and children are still likely to step in it, some dogs like to eat poo or worse roll in it! So, please do everyone a favour a pick it up!
  • Most dog’s poo within the first few minutes of a walk, why not keep them on a lead until they go so you can find it, or at least until you are sorted (phone and keys put away, coat on and ready for your walk) so that you can see where your dog is and when they go and follow them to pick it up!
  • You can bag it and carry it or if you are walking back the way you came leave it somewhere obvious to collect on your way back. If you choose the second option, DO REMEMBER to collect it, don’t hang it in the trees to decorate our countryside, leave it at the same spot each day so you get into the habit of collecting it as part of your walk routine.

Another important thing to consider when you’re choosing someone to look after your dog is to make sure they are responsible and scoop the poop!

With 4 dogs, I usually end up picking up between 5-9 poos per walk, but I always have around 20 bags with me, just in case, and that doesn’t include my emergency stash hidden in my treat pouch! Last week, I saw a dog walker returning to their car with 6 dogs and not one poo bag in sight (and there are no poo bins at that location), the odds of all 6 dogs not pooing throughout the whole walk are pretty slim!

Remember there is no poo fairy to tidy up after you and your dog!
