Dog-Friendly Days Out

10/04/2019 - Top 10 Guides

With the school holidays upon us, a long bank holiday weekend approaching and the weather beginning to brighten up it’s the perfect time to plan a couple of days out with the family. I don’t know about you but I hate leaving my dog at home whilst we go and have fun without him, I always feel guilty and wish he could join us.

Luckily there are a few fantastic days out in and around Aylesbury that welcome our four-legged family members so everyone can have some fun. Check out my Top 5 favourite local days out to enjoy this Easter.

Just remember to consider your dog and their own individual needs when planning a day out so that your dog does actually enjoy it and not find it too stressful. For example, my water loving lab would be a nightmare on a boat (no 4) as he’d be trying to jump overboard for a swim!

1. Stowe Landscape Gardens
Stowe Landcape Gardens (National Trust) are just outside Buckingham, beautiful gardens scattered with statues and buildings to explore, you can wander for hours. Dogs welcome all year round in all areas except the café, however there is covered seating in the courtyard. They even have a dog trail designed from a dog’s perspective. Over Easter there is the Easter Egg Hunt to keep the children busy too.

Entry is free for National Trust members. Family Ticket £31.50

2. Wendover Woods

Wendover Woods is currently undergoing a re-development but is still open to explore. With various walking/cycling trails, orienteering as well as a new play trail there’s lots to keep everyone busy. The younger children can enjoy following the Zog Trail and afterwards a quick stop in the café to refuel.

Parking charges apply; £2.20- £8

Chiltern Open Air Museum is a large site with over 30 historic buildings to explore. Interactive areas for the children to enjoy. During the holidays there are special activities on Terrific Tuesdays and Lambing days. Dogs are welcome on-lead over the site but not inside the buildings, there is livestock present in some areas.
